• The Academic Module is offered on all test dates. The General Module is NOT offered on all dates (see above). All test dates in either Riverside or Anaheim, CA are held on Thursdays. All other tests are held in San Diego, CA and are administered on Saturdays (unless specified by date/location - see above).

For San Diego based exams (both General/Academic), the test fee payment: $160

Off-sie exams include our regular test fee ($160), plus an additional off-site administrative fee. For off-site tests held in Anaheim, the test fee is $210 and the off-site fee for Riverside is $190.

The test application material should be mailed to the address below. There are four essential elements to any IELTS application:

1. Fully completed official IELTS application form. The application form is downloadable from www.ielts.org or from www.ih-sandiego.com or can be mailed directly from our center on request. All questions on the application form must be fully completed. All four pages (1, 2, 3, 4) of the application must be submitted, including page 4 signed and dated. Pages i, ii, iii and iv should be retained by the candidate and not submitted.

2. 2 passport-sized photos attached to the application form as indicated. The photos must both be the same image, be both of the same passport-size, must have been taken in the last six months, and must both have a white background. Digital or digitally scanned photos are not acceptable.

3. A photocopy of your passport. The passport must be the same document that has been indicated on your application form. The passport must be valid and unexpired. We need a photocopy of the page(s) containing the photo, date of birth, passport number and date of expiration. If your passport contains a current extension stamp, please also include a photocopy of that page. No other form of identification is accepted.

4. Test fee payment. As of January 1st, 2008 the test payment for IH San Diego CA is $160. Total cost for off-site tests held in Anaheim: $210. And for Riverside CA, the total is $190. The only forms of payment that are accepted are cash (only payable in person at the test center before the test date), money order (made payable to 'International House') or credit card authorization (Visa or Mastercard only). We do not accept American Express credit cards or personal checks. Please use the credit card authorization form at the end of this pack.

If incomplete applications are received there will be a delay in processing and confirming your test date. Examples of an incomplete application could be: questions on the application form not completed, application form not signed, passport photos submitted with a red or green background, digital photos submitted, no photocopy of relevant passport page(s) submitted, photocopy of an expired passport submitted, payment made by personal check. Any of these examples or others as noted above will result in the return of the candidate's application. Candidates will not be registered for a test date until a correct and completed application is submitted and the center will not hold a test date for candidates until the correct application information is received. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding these requirements.

Within 48 hours of receipt of your application, we will send you an email or call you to inform you that you are confirmed for a particular test date. You will also receive a full confirmation email or letter with full details about two weeks before your already confirmed, scheduled test date. Please contact us only if you have not received a full confirmation email or letter by one week before your scheduled test date.

The application form asks you to complete first and second choice test dates. Please complete both boxes for first and second choice test dates. If your first test date choice is not available on receipt of your application, we will automatically schedule you for your second test date choice. You must therefore be available to take the test on both your first and second choice test dates. If neither first nor second test choice date is available, we will contact you to arrange a convenient test date.

Candidates are expected to arrive at the test center no later than 8.15am. Doors will open and registration will begin at 8am. The test begins at 9am and the total test time is 2 hours 45 minutes (Listening, Reading and Writing). The Speaking test is scheduled on the same afternoon at any time between 12.15 - 6pm. You should therefore be prepared to remain at the test center the whole day.

Please leave personal items (such as cell phones, cameras, iPods, calculators) at home or in your vehicle as you will not be able to take them into the test room. You do not need to bring pencils, erasers or pencil sharpeners, as these are provided to you in the test room. Please let us know well before the test date if you have any questions regarding what is permitted in the test room.

Test results are mailed by regular USPS mail 13 days after the test. If, for example, a candidate takes the test on Saturday 15th, then the results will be mailed on Friday 28th. Results can only be issued by regular mail or be given to the candidate in person at the test center where they took the test. Candidates wishing to collect their results in person need to arrange this with the test center before the 13th day and need to bring the same passport that was used for identification on test day. If the candidate wishes to nominate another person to collect their results, again this needs to be arranged with the test center before the 13th day, the nominated person needs to bring:

1. an original letter from the candidate authorizing the pick-up.
2. the nominated person's own valid passport to be used for identification purposes.
3. a photocopy of the candidate's passport (the same passport used on test day).

The candidate will automatically receive a Test Report Form to the address provided on their application form. Only ONE Test Report Form is sent to the candidate. On their application form, the candidate may request up to five additional Test Report Forms to be sent to a receiving institution, agency or organization (but not to an individual at a residential address). These Test Report Forms are mailed direct from the test center, or made available for electronic download, on the 13th day. Requests in writing (letter, fax, or e-mail) for additional Test Report Forms to be mailed may be made at any time after the test date. There is an
administrative charge of $10 for each additional Test Report Form requested more than one month after the test date. Additional Test Report Forms are not sent more than two years after the test date.

Test centers are not permitted to give out test results over the telephone, by e-mail or by fax to either candidates or receiving institutions.

Requests for cancellation or postponement of test should be made in writing. Candidates may request a test day cancellation more than five weeks prior to the elected test date and receive a full refund, less a $35 administrative charge. A candidate who cancels their test within the 5-week period prior to a test date will receive no refund. Failure to appear for the test without notification, or arriving too late on test day to be admitted for the test, are considered cancellations and no refund will be issued. Candidates who wish to transfer their test date within the 5 weeks prior to the test will be considered a cancellation and will forfeit the test fee. Candidates will have to pay the entire test fee again to register on a different date, either at the same or at a different center.

Candidates seeking cancellation or transfer within the five-week period prior to the test date will only receive a refund or transfer without charge if they can provide evidence that their ability to sit the test has been affected by serious illness or cause. A Test Day Refund/Transfer form should be requested from the test center and must be completed and returned not more than five working days after the test date, usually with full supporting documentation, before refunds or transfers can be considered. Refunds are paid by check and are made within one month of the refund being agreed.

Candidates who are not satisfied with their results may apply for a re-mark (called Enquiry on Results) at the center where they took the test. This application must be done within six weeks of the test date. The candidate can choose which modules to be re-marked (one, two, three or all of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking). There is a fee for this service of $160. If the score on any module is increased, there is a full refund. If there is no change in test scores, no refund is received. The Enquiry on Results process takes up to six weeks from the point that test material is sent from the test center to the UK to be remarked

Preparation Courses 2007 - "Master the exam!"

Four Week Intensive

The full-time Four Course Intensive is designed for long-term international students and other students who would like to focus on IELTS preparation with our experienced IELTS instructors from Monday - Friday from 8.45am - 2.55pm. Classroom study material is included. Further on-line self-study material is made available to participants. 2008 start dates are January 7, March 3, April 28, June 23, August 18 & October 13.

Cost of tuition: $1220

One Week Intensive - Morning or Evening

The part-time One Week Intensive is held during some weeks before an IELTS test date from Monday to Friday from 8.45am - 12.45pm or from 4.45 - 8.45pm. Timetable depends on enrollments. Classroom study material is provided. Further on-line self-study material is made available to participants.
2008 start dates are Mondays January 7, January 21, January 28, February 19 (4-day course), March 3, March 24, March 31, April 14, May 5, May 27 (4-day course), June 9, June 16, July 21, August 4, August 11, September 8, September 22, October 6, October 20, November 3, November 10, December 1 & December 15.

A minimum of 3 students is required to hold the course. Cost of tuition: $350

One Day Intensive

The One Day Intensive is held the day before an IELTS test - on the Friday from 12:00 - 4.30pm. There is no One Day Intensive preparation course held before Thursday test dates. Students are made familiar with the components of the test, complete elements of a practice test, and receive feedback and exam technique tips.

A minimum of 3 students is required to hold the course. Cost of tuition: $100

Individual Classes

One-to-One classes are available at any time at $55 per hour and $33 per person per hour for Two-to-One.

We are open from 8am - 5pm Monday through Friday and from 8am - 6pm on IELTS test days.

The school is located on Congress St. between Taylor St. and Twiggs St., opposite the Old Town State Historic Park, on the second floor of the Old Town Building. Free parking is available in the parking lot situated behind the school building. Please park in a numbered parking lot and collect a parking validation ticket from our reception office.

By car
From freeway I - 5
If coming from the North, take the Old Town Avenue exit, turn left across the bridge, go straight through the first set of traffic lights and then turn left at the second set on to San Diego Avenue. Take the left fork on Congress Street, go through three stop signs and the school is one block before Old Town Transit Center on the left. If coming from the South, take Old Town Avenue exit, turn right at first set of traffic lights and left at the second set on to San Diego Avenue. Take the left fork on Congress Street, go through three stop signs and the school is one block before the Old Town Transit Center on the left.
From freeway I - 8
If coming from the East: Take the Taylor Street exit, continue straight at the traffic lights, follow Taylor Street over the freeway bridge, turn right after the bridge, continue straight through 3 sets of traffic lights. Turn left at the 4th set of lights (Congress Street). You will see the Old Town Transit Center on your right. If you cross the railroad tracks you have gone too far. The school is the first building after the Transit Center on the right. If coming from the West: Take the Taylor Street / Hotel Circle exit, and turn right. Continue straight past 3 sets of traffic lights, and turn left at the 4th set of lights at the Transit Center (Congress Street). The school is in the first building on the right after the Transit Center.

By bus or trolley (overland metro)
Bus numbers 5, 6, 9, 26, 28, 34, 35, 44, 81 and 908 and the blue line trolley train all stop at the Old Town Transit Center, which is located 1 minute walk from the school. Turn right on leaving the Transit Center, walk up Congress Street and the school is in the first building on your right.

By air
San Diego International Airport (Lindbergh Field) - airport code SAN - is located a short taxi journey from our center costing no more than $15.
